Introduction to GIS course provides a start-up for the practical use of GIS software and geospatial datasets.


The motivation for conducting this course arises from a fact that knowledge of GIS capabilities and software is an essential skill for developing career in research, teaching and business. The course will provide participants with skills to use open source Quantum GIS software and open geospatial data.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE


5 day course

QGIS software, sample data and lecture notes (in digital form) will be distributed the first day of Split Summer School.

PROGRAM PLAN
Day 1

Lecture: Introduction to the course and the main GIS concepts (1,5 h) - Exercise: QGIS - main features (1.5 h) - Final project – individual work with assistance (2 h)
