The participants will be introduced to various types of natural hazards and their effects on the society, basic elements of probability and statistics to identify and describe uncertainties, methods and software to perform reliability analyses, approaches to quantify the effects of uncertainties on the response of engineering systems, understand terminology of risk assessment, methods to perform qualitative and quantitative risk analyses, strategies for managing risks, and methodologies for risk-based decision making. The course will also include practical work assignments, which will guide the students on the main steps involved in conducting risk assessment of engineering systems and risk-informed decision making.
